Reception for Visit Hull & East Yorkshire in Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
David Hockney Case Study Visit Hull & East YorkshireObjective
Promote the Hull & East Yorkshire region by inviting the Dutch touroperators and travel press to the David Hockney exhibition in the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. The British artist David Hockney lives in Yorkshire and used the landscape there as inspiration for many of his landscape paintings.
Strategy
To promote the Hull and East Yorkshire region a VIP event was organised at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam that is hosting the Hockney-Van Gogh exhibition. The private viewing was organised after closing hours of the museum so the generla public were not there, the gest could view the exhibition
- Inform journalists about the tourist attractions that Hull and the East Yorkshire region offers. By having conversations with the press we were able to connect with them and inform them about possibilities in an in-depth manor about the destination. A goodie bag with press info was handed over when they left.
- Motivating the Dutch travel press to write and visit the Hull and the East Yorkshire region.
Many attendees of the event were unaware of this destination. By being present, providing information and answering questions, the general image of the destination can be improved and the press might get motivated to write about the event and the Hull and East Yorkshire region.
Results
The attending press and tour operators were very enthusiastic about the event. They also told us that they never knew that David Hockney’s work was inspired by the Hull and East Yorkshire region and that they didn’t knew much about the region beforehand.
